You can always close Magnifier by selecting the close button on the Magnifier pop out (the small rectangular window that says Magnifier in the top left corner). To scroll horizontally or vertically, tap a border and then slide your finger out of the border towards the center of the screen. So, it’s not just the one system.ĭoes anyone know how to get this option to present itself? As far as I can tell, if my Google searches are any indication, I am the first person to have this issue. I have a second system on my test bench that is a different computer but is basically the same setup, and it also will not present the pinch-zoom option. I can only find a few USB touchpads online and it looks like they are all the same, basically just a mouse type device and use the generic MS mouse driver. But, I did try the latest (V19) Synaptics drivers.

Synaptics drivers are (as far as I can tell) for specific hardware, normally found on laptops. The device doesn’t come with any drivers. So, we bought a touchpad to replace the mouse. I decided that maybe I did not have the correct hardware. On EVERY WEB SITE that describes how to disable (or enable) the pinch zoom feature, has instructions with people giving the same advice: WINDOWS BUTTON->SETTINGS->MOUSE AND TOUCHPAD->Additional Mouse settings->Tab at top, far right 'SYNAPTICS'. This defeats the point of having a SELF-CHECK-OUT. Even though you and I know that we can just un-zoom by pinching ->out. At this point the librarian is called over to ‘see what happened’. So, once it zooms in, the computer becomes unusable for them. Most of these patrons are not computer literate. When library patrons touch the screen with more than one finger, it ZOOOOMMMMMS in.

As Windows 7 wasn’t really built with touch in mind, I thought that upgrading to Windows 10 would do the trick. The Windows install/upgrade is pretty much trouble-free. I upgraded to Windows 10 because I thought that I would get the option to disable pinch zoom along with the upgrade.
